A shamanic troubadur. That is what Aïsha Devi, who will be playing at PHONO16, calls herself in an interview with Fact Magazine. For her the music is not about entertainment, but a way to contact and travel to other dimensions. The bas is the medium – and she is as well.

The music is an opportunity to set your mind free and escape from the systematic world, she also states. And this happens in the clubs: “For me, a gig should be a kind of ritualistic celebration. I like the idea of gathering. For me the clubs are kind of the new temples.”

That is exactly what happened at this year’s MUTEK Montreal. According to Fact Magazine her concert was a highlight on the festival and furthermore a religious experience. Soon it will be the FAF-building which Aïsha Devi turns into a temple.
