The eclectic duo is a living legend known for their always heartfelt concerts with beats and chimes from all over the world. Den Sorte Skole feels like a dark and dizzying trip that shifts elegantly between earth-shaking bass and beautiful fields of sound.

Den Sorte Skole is a sample-based producer and composer group from Copenhagen, Denmark consisting of Simon Dokkedal and Martin Højland. The duo started out in the outskirts of hip hop and old school rap until time took the gentlemen for a spin around the world.

They’re known for sampling fragments of sound from old vinyl records from all corners of the world and genres as diverse as folk, psych rock, early electronic music, noise, all kinds of so-called world-music, classical music and field recordings. It all adds up in a mix that oscillate somewhere between the squashed dance floor and a fine suite of emotive pieces.

Here’s some words on what to expect from the concert at PHONO17 – coming straight from the horse’s mouth:

“The concert at PHONO is an opportunity for us to go beyond the outskirts of our universe. It will be an unlimited space of liberation for the audience to experience sounds and music they haven’t heard before. We usually make use of crazy soundscapes for our common listeners, however, at PHONO we want to challenge ourselves and seek new ways for the dedicated audience with a taste for experimental music.”
