Tapes plays tapes. Let’s get that out the way.
With a sound heavily inspired by the godfathers of dub, like Prince Buster, King Tubby and Lee Scratch Perry – Tapes takes you on a cosmic journey of infinite swirling snares and ultra reverberated stabs only to bring you back down by shaking the earth beneath your feet with tight bassline lines and Casio kicks. While the use of sounds effects still pays homage to the inventors of dub – the musical production is much more inspired by the later digital dub and dancehall era.
Tapes has naturally found a home at the great Jahtari label who has been a major provider of bass heavy digital reggae for more than 10 years.
In 2015 we saw a different side of Tapes with his cover of Pat Kelly’s – “Somebody’s Baby”, released on German house label Workshop.
A full album is also recently released. “No Broken Hearts On This Factory Floor” is 16 tracks of beautiful digital dub music and a great way to warm up this years performance at PHONO.
